song: "shut up and dance" by walk the moon
i heard this countless times while limited to local radio in NJ. ah, memories.
from "The Art of Loving" by Erich Fromm:
(people believe) "the problem of love is the problem of an object, not the problem of a faculty. People think that to love is simple, but that to find the right object to love--or to be loved by--is difficult...because one does not see that love is an activity, a power of the soul, one believes that all that is necessary to find is the right object--and that everything goes by itself afterward."
Fromm then compares this attitude to that of a man who wants to paint. but instead of learning how, the man thinks he has to wait for the right object to appear. once it does, he'll be a great painter.
must read: a man who graduated Harvard Law School with Chief Justice John Roberts is homeless. thanks to the amazing Ann Friedman for finding it.
