"The journey into the woods of change and transformation is an inner one. The outer story line need not be a soap opera, since the real drama is being carried out in the heart of the traveler. The most ordinary-looking lives are often being lived by the most extraordinary spiritual warriors--people who have chosen the road less taken, the road of self-reflection...I know that the difficulty of the dark journey is matched only by its rewards." -- Broken Open by Elizabeth Lesser

this week's New Yorker includes a story behind its cover. Chris Ware, a cartoonist for the magazine, experimented with audio and animation provided by This American Life's Ira Glass. the result is a multimedia storytelling adventure, which you can experience here. these are excerpts from Ware's essay about the collaboration:
"Usually, when listening to a story, one’s mind not only sees but also feels in images; you imagine and constantly revise and update entire tableaux, much the way you imagine things while reading a book."
"In fact, it seems to me that much of what we “see” in our everyday lives isn’t in front of us at all but within our memories and imaginations."
