Since I was falling asleep during the safety demonstration instead of actively tuning it out, I ended up hearing its contents for the first time since the early 80s.
At the "oxygen is flowing even if the bag doesn't inflate" part, I realized something.
We're all looking for the big demonstration of activity. The fancy show. The revolutionary display. The ballooning bag.
But progress and crucial work get done in a variety of ways--sometimes elaborate, sometimes plain.
Because really, people. Oxygen is flowing. That's basically the definition of "vital" for humans. And yet...that's not enough. We need an inflating plastic bag, too.
Just Google the exact script. You'll find loads of rants like, "WHAT'S THE POINT OF THE BAG IF IT DOESN'T INFLATE????" Emphasis mine, but still. It's a touchy issue.
Be open to the possibility that sometimes, important work goes on without a big show. Without a lot of fuss. With no bag at all.
And whatever you do, stay off Reddit. Those folks are nuts.
