I have a full-time job! As of mid-July, I work as an assistant editor at Disney Publishing Worldwide in Glendale. And it is...fantastic.
I’m on the global franchise team handling comics and magazines about the “standard characters.” Those are the OG guys like Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Scrooge.
This position is a one-way ticket to Opportunity Land. I’m so grateful and excited. It feels like the universe sifted through all available options and came up with this solution, which fits me perfectly. Here’s how: Italian. Part of our team is based in Milan and my boss is Italian. I get to write it, speak it, listen to it. Since Italy is a huge chunk of our market, sometimes I read comics in Italian.
Because of the “global” part, I work with editors all over the world and see their work. Did you know Donald Duck is huge in Scandinavia?
It’s funny, I wasn’t into comic books as a kid, but they’re chock full of imagination, inventiveness, and inspiration. They’ve already inspired a post. Plus, one day I found myself writing “aliens + jungle” as the synopsis of one and started laughing, thinking, “This is my job.”
Although my personal (and blogging!) time is short, the corporate world hasn’t stifled my creativity. If anything, it’s turbocharged it.
Expect (really) short posts once a week until I adjust. Or forever.
