this song was blasting in a store i visited a few weeks ago. since it was released in april 2014, i’d like to think i heard it before early april of this year, but i’m not sure.
i caught the lyrics, which is a small miracle for me, and they cracked me up. “i got one less problem without you”? that’s sassy, human, and empowering.
using a pop song chorus to obliterate the memory of a romantic partner is a lot to ask. but for banishing an irritating, peripheral person from your mind? it might just work.
there are definitely people we’d be better off not thinking about. for example, the guy who cut you off 18 hours ago or the outrageously slow postal worker from last Wednesday’s post office visit.
instead of replaying real or perceived inconveniences, consciously decide your time is better spent elsewhere. see the person in your mind or in real time, and think, i’ve got one less problem without you. let them vacate your mind. allow yourself to free that space for something enriching. (like ariana grande and iggi azalea’s new song!)
