song: "lazy projector" by andrew bird

i rediscovered this song when it was returned to my phone after a harrowing itunes debacle (why is it so bad?  when will it improve?).  i love how sleepy his voice sounds and the song's images.

the line, “that forgetting, embellishing, lying machine,” reminds me how flawed our memories are and can become over time; how we don't see things as they are but as we are.

  • quote

Resistance seems to come from outside ourselves.  We locate it in spouses, jobs, bosses, kids.  ‘Peripheral opponents,’ as Pat Riley used to say when he coached the Los Angeles Lakers.

Resistance is not a peripheral opponent.  Resistance arises from within.  It is self-generated and self-perpetuated.  Resistance is the enemy within.”

from (clever title alert!) The War of Art by Steven Pressfield, who has written about everything from Amazon tribes to military campaigns in Afghanistan.

7 habits of highly persistent people via fastcompany.  it's pretty self-explanatory.  just learn them, love them, and witness major changes.  Harvey Deutschendorf, an emotional intelligence expert (!!!) wrote the article as well as The Other Kind of Smart (love that title) about emotional intelligence.

since my first car was a Volvo, the company has my heart forever.  now they’ve reaffirmed my affection with their new product, LifePaint, an invisible safety spray that reflects headlights in the dark.

check out the demo.  it looks awesome and fun, and if it works as advertised, should keep cyclists, kids, and everyone not in a car safe from errant drivers at night.

right now it’s only available in London and Kent but will spread internationally if well received. lasting about a week, it’s suitable for any fabric, “ even dog leads and collars.”

burning question, LifePaint folks: what about directly on dogs?
