Hey! How about a super late, super short post from a jet-lagged Julia after she spent a day shopping, socializing, and drinking champagne before 5 pm? What could go wrong???
I've been thinking about this quote from Seth Godin so much lately:
"A woodpecker can tap twenty times on a thousand trees and get nowhere, but stay busy. Or he can tap twenty-thousand times on one tree and get dinner."
You need a certain amount of focus to get anywhere. But how do you deal with interferences? And get back on course despite them? I'm looking into it.
Sometimes I tap 10,000 times on a tree, get discouraged and leave. Then 5,000 on another. But getting all the way to 20,000? Never made it. Focusing on one thing to the exclusion of others feels dangerous because it forces you to go deep. Maybe it is the only way to go. It's certainly worked for Seth.
What kind of woodpecker are you?
