i was stopped at a light on PCH a few weeks ago when i noticed the license plate frame of the car in front of me. it was customized and read,
MY OTHER CAR IS A YOGA MAT.
thrilled by the yoga connection, i cheered out loud—“ha, ha! yeah!”—although i was the only person present.
but this idea of an “other car” was intriguing. what did it mean?
obviously, a car gives freedom. you’re autonomous and on your own schedule. and it provides transportation by physically taking you places. by letting you see more than you would otherwise, it can also transport figuratively, enriching and enhancing life. when i looked past the joke, it became obvious: we all need at least one other car.
what in your life provides those car-like benefits of liberation and movement?
is it a beach? a book? psychotropic drugs? a boat? an idea? a garden? a photograph? a TV. show? a novel? an adventure? ice cream?
in other words, what’s your better form of transportation, your other freedom-giving device? there’s only one wrong answer, “my phone.”
LOOK! you made it to the end. you either have an opinion or you're lost.
